the weekend

in october 2004, patty griffin was on austin city limits on pbs, and i missed knowing about it by one week. after being miserable about it, and searching for it but coming up empty-handed, it was finally on again this week. she was only on for half an hour (sharing the episode with the insanely talented damien rice), and she only sang about five songs, but it was completely worth the wait. i've given up on ever seeing her live since she never comes to ohio, so i guess this is as close as i'll get. maybe it's for the best since i couldn't keep from crying at hearing the sound of her voice. true, it might have been the four beers that lead up to viewing the episode, but i'm pretty sure it was the voice. watching loggerheads twice in one week, that just so happened to feature three patty songs may have been a contributing factor as well, who knows. i love movies like loggerheads that sneak up on you, catch you by surprise, bash you over the head with a frying pan, and cause you to bawl like the little girl that you truly are. i think this was the first time ever, with the 100+ dvds that i own, that i've watched a movie with the director's commentary on for the entire time during my second viewing.

in other news...i had the best pancakes ever for breakfast, and ice cream for dinner. i watched playing by heart again, and three episodes of my new favorite show the loop for the second time. this spring ahead business has me all out of sorts, but i am handling it a little better than my dvd recorder. at 2 a.m. this morning it flashed for a solid minute, then switched to 3 a.m. and then somehow added on another thirteen hours to its clock. i noticed it this afternoon when it said 5 a.m. at 4 p.m. and now i think i'm going to go to bed. here's hoping i won't wake up until next saturday.
