Alice Ghostley, who played one of my favorite sitcom characters ever, Bernice Clifton on Designing Women, died over the weekend. She was the original Mary Cherry. The best episodes always involved an appearance by Bernice. I still to this day think of some of my favorite lines of hers. Like the time when she answered the phone saying, "booger shakers, our girls work cheap" or when she had her own public access show and attempted to prostitute the other girls. I died every time she sang, "black man, black man where did you come from", to Anthony. However, my favorite moment was when she arrived at the hospital wheeled in on a stretcher while wearing a Christmas tree skirt as a skirt when Charlene had her baby. With very special guest Dolly Parton. She wasn't able to drive so she called 911 to get a ride to the hospital. I wonder if they'd understand if I took the day off tomorrow to mourn my loss. My sister even sent me the CNN link this morning when she first found out about it. I found that kind of amusing.
